The Millionaire Lottery Success Story...

THE THEME MUSIC...

The most-talked about grand prize home in years!

Created for the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, in support of the second largest health care complex in Canada, the Millionaire Lottery began as a way to build additional awareness and test a new growth stream for the Foundation.

It was a trial effort that first year (1996) but it proved its worth as a way to augment the revenue base of gifts, bequeaths, and endowments which had, till then, been the only source of new money for the Foundation.

After its first success, the Millionaire Lottery has continued to grown - and evolve - over many sell-out years - proving to be a tremendous success in terms of the awareness generated and the many millions of dollars brought in. Over the years, we expanded from 1 big winner to 2 grand prizes, and in 2003 to 3 grand prize winners.

Always, wanting to stay on the leading edge of lottery promotion, in 2004, we took the Millionaire in a new direction...

For 2004, we revamped the logo and campaign, introduced a new $2.4 million grand prize and created the most talked about lottery in years. Among the innovations: over $1/4 million in reno work and $1/4 in furniture. appliances, accessories and decorating by one of Canada's best known, best loved interiors designers... Sarah Richardson from HGTV. The effort transformed an ocean-front home into a show stopper, a conversation piece, and a ticket-buyer magnet. The launch included a first-ever involvement with a popular design event, personal appearances by Sarah at the prize home, and considerable press coverage.

Over 50% of tickets sold in the first few weeks since launch, and the lottery sold out over 1 week earlier than last year. More millions in net proceeds have been raised for the VGH and UBC Hospital sites. Vancouver General Hospital operates one of the largest surgical facilities in Canada, with over 23 operating rooms. In addition, along with the UBC Hospital, they're the primary training centre for future doctors in British Columbia with a leadership role in Cardiac Care, Cancer Surgery, Parkinson's Research and more. With lottery support, they've been able to add operating room equipment, improve pre- and post-op facilities, provide automated patient lifts to help out ICU nurses, added specialized wheelchairs and new technology for Neurosciences Cardiology and more. Seed funding has been provided to important new research in life support, hypertension, and other important needs.
